The learning curve for PS1 has already been tremendously steep. In the first 8 weeks we have explored the curriculum, lesson planning, classroom management, assessment strategies and more. I have taken in more information in the first half of the semester than I think I can remember. With that I am beyond anxious and excited to get out in the classroom and start implementing what we have been learning.
Some important findings I have discovered this early in my teaching profession is that classrooms no longer exist behind closed doors and the learning community now extends beyond even the school at times. I have experienced the importance of collaboration and sharing. Teachers should share their work, use other teachers as their main resources and pick each others brain. As we share the same profession it is important that we utilize each others talents. We have a tremendous amount of technology available to use which allows us to share our work, ideas and thoughts with a more public audience. This makes our work more meaningful, offers an opportunity for more feedback and many more benefits.
Another important learning I have found is that we do not need to have all the answers, especially not here in our PS1 placements. In this experience it is more important that we are willing to take risks and when things go wrong we are able to reflect on an experience. An indication of growth is demonstrated when we are able to reflect on a lesson, identify what went wrong and make changes for next time. I have learned that this is more important that having flawless lessons each day. By being able to reflect on experiences makes our learning more meaningful and effective.
