As pre service teachers I think it is important to have these prepared with your lesson so that you do not have to think on your feet and risk using an inappropriate strategy because it was the first one to come to mind. Also, I think it is as pre-service teachers great that we are implementing these in our lessons and practicing them on our peers. It is extremely important to maintain an organized, controlled classroom because that makes a safe environment. Students need a safe and organized environment to learn in. For younger children it would likely be a good idea to practice these types of strategies several times before using them so that they know what to do. These strategies will likely be more effective that way. It might also be fun and engaging to collaboratively make up an attention grabbing strategy with your students. The students then would feel engaged and a part of the process likely making the strategy more meaningful. As I begin lesson planning and teaching I plan to use these at any time needed and I am always looking for more ideas and suggestions!
